Greek Moussaka

Easy Greek Moussaka

Ingredients:

  • 1 can Tomato paste

  • 1 can Tomato sauce

  • 1 can Tomato Puree or Crushed Tomatoes

  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil

  • 1 large Onion diced

  • 2 Garlic cloves minced (more if you like)

  • 1/2 cup Red Wine

  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

  • Salt & Pepper to taste

  • 1 pound ground lamb, pork or beef (or a combination)

  • 1 cup grated Kefaltoyri or Parmesan cheese

Preparation:

--Meat Sauce-

  • Sauté onion until soft and garlic a cook a few more minutes.

  • Add red wine simmer until reduce 1/3.

  • Add tomato paste stir and cook about 5 more minutes.

  • Add cinnamon, allspice, salt, pepper, tomato sauce, and puree.

  • Let simmer on low for at least one half hour.

  • Brown ground meat and add to sauce.

  • Simmer at least another ½ hour.

-Assemble the Casserole-

  • Alternate layers of meat sauce, cheese, and eggplant in a buttered 9 x 13 casserole.

  • Top with Béchamel Sauce

Bake 350 for 45 minutes or until Béchamel sauce is a nice brown color.

Let cool for 10 to 20 min before serving.
