The Tangibility of Farming, Our New Member Referral Program, and Strawberry Balsamic Jam!

Hi all!

Looking out on the farm today, I feel incredibly grateful and proud. Grateful that all of our hard work has paid off, and proud of how much we have accomplished. I've been here for just over 3 months now, and it is astonishing to see tangible progress being made. I think that's what I love most about farm work. You can (literally) see, smell, touch, and taste your work! What once was just an unassuming package of seed in the mail is now a large plant, in the ground, producing vegetables for our customers... How cool is that?! On the other side of the coin, I worry about the farm. Worry that some plants won't make it, that some will get eaten by gophers or terrorized by our chickens; that all of our hard work will go unnoticed, unused. We put up the farm stand in hopes of selling our excess to the community beyond our CSA-to make the farm truly sustainable and earn something in return for our labor. All good things take time, but I would like to ask you all for your help. You are our best source of marketing! If you have friends or family in the area, please help spread the word about McKinley Family Farm- for each referral you bring us, we will give you one free week of veggies to say thanks!

ALSO... Kris and I just made some Strawberry Balsamic Jam.. and OH MY GOODNESS is it tasty! And (assuming it gels well, etc) it will be on sale this weekend for your tasting pleasure! :)

^The jam just after adding the sugar.. waiting for it to come to a rolling boil!

^The jam after filling all the jars- there was some left over.. what was a girl to do?! :) I mean, really, I was just practicing good quality control!

^The jars of jam, post- canning process. Now we just have to wait 24 hours to make sure it was a success!
